Abstract

To study the category of place, by the perspective of the Humanistic Geography enunciates a complex approach about the particularities that act in the accomplishment of the place in certain space. For being closely allied to the human daily experiences, the category of place appears in the center of the discussions proposed by the Humanistic Geographers who engage themselves in the elucidation of the material and symbolic arrangements that form the place. From this conjucture, between the category of place and the Humanistic Geography, it is made the link to an understanding about the places of culture and leisure practiced by the residents in São Paulo City at Paulista Avenue, one of the main "symbols" of this metropolis. Thus, considering the peculiarities that form the daily places, it starts an overlap of the experienced place by the inhabitant in his day by day with the appropriate places by visitors in their tourism practices. Thus, it becomes possible to analyze the dynamics that transform the space, often indifferent or reject, in intimately relational places. (AU)
