Abstract

Cerrado is the second Brazilian biome and was elected one of the twenty and five areas, in the Planet, considered richer and with priority for conservation; however, this biome is suffering increasing ambient pressure since the 70s. The hypothesis of this proposal is that, using remote sensing, geotecnologies and ambiental modeling, it is possible to evaluate the impact yet caused due the fast replacement of the Cerrado'natural vegetation by intensive agricultural uses in Central Brazil, as well as supplying estimates and scenarios about the sustentability of these practices in horizonts of 10, 20 and 30 years in the future. Thus, it intended: (1) to evaluate the potential of the MODIS data (250m) to detect anthropic changes on the vegetation of the Cerrado biome; (2) using remote sensing imagery and geotecnologies to evaluate the dynamics of replacement of natural vegetation by anthropic uses, considering temporal views in 1985, 1990, 2000 and 2005; (3) to apply environmental models for estimating erosion and soil losses, as well as changes in hydrologic flows caused by the alterations of the vegetal covering; (4) to develop an index of environmental degradation (IDA); (5) to construct simulation scenarios considering temporal views form 10, 20 and 30 future years; and (6) to make recommendations regarding exploratories practices, aiming the sustentability.
