Abstract

This research intends to analyze programs and documents of Department of Education of Sao Paulo State ("Secretaria de Estado de Educação de São Paulo") specially those published by Coordination of Studies and Pedagogical Rules ("Coordenadoria de Estudos e Normas Pedagógicas - CENP") and by Fundation for Development of Education (FDE). Those programs and documents are related to Cycle I (Elementary School) from 1983 to 2008. The aim is analyses the trajectory of constructivism as official discourse of public education in São Paulo State during those 25 years. São Paulo is the most important financial and commercial State in Brazil. The Department of Education in this State manages about five millions of students, 230 thousand teachers and 5.500 schools. These numbers show how important is to understand the role of constructivism as a strategic element of educational policy of São Paulo State. (AU)
