Abstract

The project aims to study the establishment of Machado de Assis as national myth during Estado Novo (1937-1945), the transformation of the writer into Brazilian cultural heritage and relations of these processes with the literary criticism of the period.In short, the objectives of the research are to examine the official material on Machado de Assis produced during the Estado Novo and observe the position by the writer in the construction of the myth of nation.
