Abstract

The maintenance of cognitive and functional abilities is one of the factors associated with better quality of life. The literature has little data about the factors associated with better cognitive performance in old age. The aim of this study is to identify the factors associated with better cognitive performance among older adults of São Paulo. The data were collected by SABE Study - the Health, Well-Being, and Aging in Latin America and the Caribbean, a muticentric and longitudinal study conducted in a representative sample of older adults residents in São Paulo/SP. The best cognitive performance will be obtained based on the older adults who had scores at or above the 75th percentile of performance in Mini-Mental Examination (MMSE), a screening test, which assesses global cognitive function. The factors associated with better cognitive performance will consider only the assessment obtained in 2006, which applied the MMSE in the full version and with total score of 30 points. The data will be statistically evaluated in order to assess the factors associated with better cognitive performance. (AU)
