Abstract

We plan to investigate how well the luminous matter traces the dark matter component of galaxies by studying a sample of 200 nearby field spiral galaxies for which velocity maps and R band images are available. A quarter of the photometric data for this project has already been reduced and calibrated by the student and the velocity fields are available in the literature. The whole project is suitable for a 1 year program and should produce publishable results.
