Abstract The voluntary carbon market makes possible the development of new forestry activities besides the ones set by the Kyoto Protocol. Among the different voluntary market standards, is the "Voluntary Carbon Standard" (VCS), the only standard that allows the development of carbon projects involving the conversion from conventional logging to forest management reduced impact logging (FM-RIL).However, for the implementation of such project activity, it is necessary the development of an appropriated methodology and its approval according the standards set by the VCS, which doesn't exist up to the moment. This master program aims to develop a methodology for carbon projects involving the conversion from conventional logging to FM-RIL and apply it in a real forest area context located in Paragominas, Pará State, in order to assess its economic and technical viability in a real project situation. The study area was submitted to 3 different forms of treatment - conventional logging, FM-RIL and not-logged (control) - presenting a high volume of data related to forest regeneration, collected during a period of 16 years. | |
