Abstract

This project aims to examine School manuals published for the teaching of hygiene in schools in São Paulo, between the 1920s and 1940s. Focusing on research into the diverse knowledge propagated by these materials, we try to also raise issues related to the identification of authors and their institutional affiliation, and as well as guidelines prescribed by the educational authorities and their authors. In this analysis, the textbooks will be taken as a source of information about the content of schooling, as well as cultural objects, which condense into its material a plurality of interests, intentions and regulations, which may inform some of the practices developed within the school. This project is the result of basic scientific research carried out from August 2007 to July 2009, with a grant from the Institutional Program of Scientific Initiation Scholarship / CNPq / UNICAMP.
