Abstract

The Alzheimer's disease(AD) is the more common form of dementia that attack the elderly. Depressed patients with AD show greater deficiency in the activities of daily life, and at greater risk of institutionalization and increase caregiver stress. The regular physical activity can be a non-pharmacological alternative in the treatment of the depressive symptoms, for being of low economical cost, accessible and preventing functional decline in elderly. Thus, the present study has as objective to analyze the effects of resistance training in the depressive symptoms in patients with AD. Will participate in this study 30 patients with clinical diagnosis of AD divided in two groups: Training Group (GT) and Social Interaction Group (GCS). The subject of GT will be submitted to a protocol of physical activity systematized, of anaerobic character, appropriate to the individual conditions, during three no consecutive days in the week, with duration of 60 minutes each session, for 16 weeks. The GCS won't participate in any systematized physical activity. Both groups will be assessed at the beginning of the program and after 16 weeks. For the assessment will be used questionnaires, scales and blood collection. The data will be treated as descriptive procedures. Afterwards the Shapiro Wilk's will verify the distribution of the data. In case of normal distribution, will be used Student's t test for independent samples and Pearson correlation test. In case the distribution is not parametric, it will be performed test of Mann Whitney U test and Spearman correlation. Level of significance of 5% will be admitted. (AU)
