Abstract

A família Loricariidae, uma das maiores famílias de peixes do mundo com cerca de 720 espécies, tem sido objeto de vários estudos taxonômicos e sistemáticos o que tem auxiliado na compreensão da diversidade e dos padrões gerais de relacionamento entre seus gêneros e espécies. Todavia, dada a ampla diversidade do grupo, muitos dos problemas da família ainda estão por ser resolvidos. Estudos recentes dividiram a família Loricariidae em sete subfamílias: Hypoptopomatinae, Otothyrinae, Loricariinae, Hypostominae, Ancistrinae, Neoplecostominae e Lithogeneinae. Dentre os Otothyrinae o gênero Hisonotus, distribuído pelas drenagens atlânticas do sul e sudeste do Brasil, é o mais especioso e um recente estudo utilizando sequências de DNA nuclear apontou para uma possível polifilia do mesmo. Atualmente é composto por 23 espécies válidas e possivelmente muitas outras devem ser incluídas nesse grupo. Além disso, até recentemente as espécies desse gênero vinham sendo identificadas como pertencentes ao gênero Microlepidogaster, que atualmente tem apenas duas espécies. Assim, o presente projeto terá como objetivo principal testar a hipótese de que Hisonotus é monofilético e estudar as relações entre as espécies constituintes desse gênero e dessas com as espécies de Microlepidogaster.
