Abstract

This project aims to study the phonology of the Kanamari language, belonging to the linguistic family Katukina, spoken by a people of the same name that inhabits in the Brazilian State of Amazonas, more precisely in the regions of rivers Juruá, Xeruá, Itacuaí, Jutahy and Seabra (Groth, 1985). Initially we present the Katukina family, characterized by few academic studies of its languages and by its small number of languages, amongst which one already is esteem to be extinct. Among the Katukina languages, we focus on presentation of the Kanamari language, with approximately 1654 speakers and also with little studies in academic scope, being that its phonological studies focus primarily on traditional phonemic analysis. The following is a brief summary about the basic bibliography, whose data we will use during our research, in addition to those collected through field research. To collect data, we describe some procedures that follow in this step of the research and we will review these data through the phonological analysis so that we can identify their phonemes and alophones. Given this initial phase, we intend to analyze the Kanamari's data more thoroughly in accordance with Non-Linear Phonology in its sources autossegmental and metric.
