This project will involve clean development mechanism (CDM) landfill projects and how they can generate innovations in sanitation services that contribute to Brazilian municipals' solid waste management systems. This research will consider the Bandeirantes and São João landfills, both located in São Paulo. The premise is justified because there is a necessity to improve the solid waste management system in Brazilian municipalities, in particular the solid waste segment, but simultaneously it will impact the environment and the quality of life for the people in the area. In Brazil, some landfill gas projects were established without proceeds from the CDM, thus the realized projects emerged as an opportunity to promote the sustainable development of the urban solid waste sector. The methodological procedures will consist in the adoption the social carbon methodology with indicators to evaluate the social and environmental outcomes of CDM projects on landfills; and the identification of opportunities for innovations related to urban solid waste shall refer the conceptual and analytical framework of the multi-agent model for innovation in services. The expected results of this research is to identify and classify the competences and preferences of the stakeholders in the implementation of CDM projects on the Bandeirantes and São João landfills, and the construction and application of indicators to assess the social and environmental outcomes of the implementation of CDM projects in these landfills.
