Abstract

Introduction: The socioeconomic impact associated with limbs amputations is not only related to rehabilitation treatment and prothetization, but also to indirect costs resulted from the social productivity reduction. Objective: The present study will be conducted to verify the association between the nutritional status and rehabilitation program direct costs among unilateral lower limb amputees. Materials and Methods: This is a non-probability convenience sample prospective study involving adults unilateral lower limb amputees of both sexes admitted to rehabilitation treatment in three unities of Lucy Montoro Rehabilitation Network in São Paulo, Brazil, during the second semester of 2010. The nutritional status will be determinate through anthropometric, dietetic and biochemical assessment. The direct cost of the rehabilitation program offered to each patient will be calculated by summarizing all the specific and non-specific costs related to the procedures performed by the different professional services. The data will be analyzed by using the statistical software package Stata 9.
