Abstract The East zone of São Paulo, the city's most populous region, has gone through a process of consolidating its periphery in the last 30 years of the 20th century.In the midst of this period, the deployment of line 3-red (East-West) was completed in 1988, and this is the only subway line to serve the region. It is appropriate and necessary, therefore, to investigate the history of planning and deploying of East of subway, considered a powerful structuring element of spatial configuration, intending to analyze how this infrastructure network influenced local dynamics and how it was articulated with the urbanistic transformations that came to the region at the end of the last century.The period to be studied starts on 1965, the year of the beginning of the administration of Mayor Faria Lima, responsible for creating the Companhia do Metropolitano, until 2000, year of the last population census of the 20th century. | |
