Abstract

It is a study on the patrimonial field which foundation is the analyses of the relation between materialized information and institutional patrimony constitution. We will analyze the process of putting under governmental trust of natal houses initiated by the Historic and Artistic National Patrimony Institute (IPHAN) between the 1960 and 1970 decades with the proposal of amplify this knowledge field comprehension. The general aim of this PhD degree research is to contribute for the debates and studies in patrimonial documentation inside of Documentation and Information Science fields. The specifics objectives are: to found the patrimonial documentation as a social dispositive that determines the cultural goods preservation through specifics institutional negotiations; to analyze the dynamic of preservationist value attribution by IPHAN; and to observe the many expressed tensions in the process identifying the institutional agents' confrontations and agreements when exercising their functions. We consider this patrimonial documentation as a social device that finds its materialization in institutional documentaries practices. A documentation that is influenced by power's relations, power's games and by the universe of its production, and that in an opposite way influences and exercises determinations on the social and cultural environment.
