Abstract

The reproduction of native migratory fish is an issue with diverse particularities and of huge importance once, it is related to the feasibility of commercial production of native species in large scale. In spite of the conventional hypophysation technique can be very effective, unexpected results and lack of ovulation in treated females of migratory native fish are very regular drawbacks. In this context, such reality can only be effectively improved when filled the gap of knowledge about the role of each hormonal doses during the process of oocyte final maturation and ovulation. Thus, the main objective of this project is to examine and compare the development of the oocyte final maturation process, ovulation and reproductive performance in piauçu, Leporinus macrocephalus, applying the hypophysation technique and GnRH. Oocytes will be collected from the breeders at various periods after induction for assessment of the percentage of vitellogenic oocytes in each sampling. Blood samples will be also collected to measure serum levels of the main steroid hormones involved with reproduction. In addition, reproductive performance will be evaluated in animals as well as the development of their progenies. With these results, we aim to fill a gap on how each breeder responds to hormonal induction, with either GnRH or pituitary gland, and with this information, possibly propose further discussions on this subject, including changes in hormonal doses and the interval between it.
