Abstract

The present work aim to study operational strategies of an anoxic/aerobic reactor no compartmented, with suspended growth and with continuous flow, constituted for seven sectors in series (without physical separation), installed after anaerobic reactor, aiming to do simultaneous removal of nitrogen, phosphorus and organic matter from sanitary sewage. The work will be divided in two Stages, in which will be varied the solids retention time, recirculation flow rate, hydraulic retention time, the aeration and the agitation in the existing sectors. For the Stage I, the defined operational conditions for the sectors of the anoxic/aerobic reactor were: i) two first sectors only with agitation and the five others with aeration; ii) intermittent aeration in all sectors. The conditions of the Stage II will be defined, later on, with basis in the results of the Stage I. In the experimental plant there will be automated system that will do on-line monitoring of the parameters of pH, dissolved oxygen, oxidation-reduction potential, ammonium nitrogen and nitrate; and with basis in the variation of these parameters along of the system, will be programmed the aeration/agitation without aeration times in the sectors of the anoxic/aerobic reactor. Chemistry analyses will be done together with the on-line monitoring and their results will allow assessing the best conditions of simultaneous removal of nitrogen and phosphorus. Like this, guidelines associated to a proposition of operational strategy for the sanitary sewage treatment will be known, and they will be useful for systems with similar configuration to the proposal in this work.
