Abstract

Hydrogels from polysaccharides, due to its properties, as biocompatibility, biodegradability and ability to suffer chemical derivatization to generate new compounds with improved properties have increased interest in applications as scaffolds for cell growth.The objectives of this project are to obtain hydrogels scaffolods from polysaccharides as xanthan, starch and their blends, for growth of epithelial cells and nerve cells. The materials will be characterized in terms of morphology, mechanical, thermal and surface properties, and its capacity for adhesion, proliferation and differentiation of mentioned cells.The hydrogels will also be modified with differentiation and growth factors to increase their ability to function as a scaffold for cell growth.
