Abstract

The demand for improved environmental and life quality in cities is becoming more urgent, in this context the presence of a well managed urban forest contributes to that goal. For good management of a forest is necessary to their manager to know his forest and the most common method of diagnosis is an urban forest inventory, which leads the manager to basic information about the number of individuals, their location and biological conditions especially . Currently, with the use of georeferenced information technologies can create databases with the location of the trees by geographical coordinates and plotted it in cartographic databases. However, this procedure takes time and resources to perform, changing accord to the objective of the inventory. This project aims to compare four inventory methods for characterizing the urban forest: the classic, using a sheet of paper, and three other types with Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) taking into account the time, the resources required for its performance and accuracy georeferencing of each method and these data produce a linear programming model that allows to choose which one applies to the goals of an inventory to be performed.
