Abstract

Studies have shown that the types of use and land cover in a watershed directly influence water quality and often do not meet the permanent preservation areas, especially when dealing with cities that have had an accelerated urbanization. Thus, this study aims to relate the different uses and occupations of land and environmental degradation factors to the quality of river water Sorocaba. For this, we used remote sensing techniques to generate thematic maps of land use and occupation of tracks and riparian areas, as well as generating a map of slope, a survey of pollution sources in the field and water samples for analysis Water quality index (WQI). With the spatial data, we propose a model of quantitative and qualitative analysis for correlation of data. At the end of the study, it is expected that the water analysis and the maps generated, provide an environmental assessment of the qualitative study area and will serve as a pilot plan for application in other basins in the region, strengthening support for the decision, contributing to planning the physical development and territorial cohesion and ensuring the protection of natural resources.
