Abstract

This research aims to conduct a study of material life in São Paulo in the period from 1580 to 1640. It is an attempt to approach the material environment and achieve it through the daily, thinking the meanings with which the objects were coated. Therefore, we will use inventories and wills already published as main sources. From this approximation of materiality, we intend to seek representations and practices involving the movement of belongings and objects through inheritance, loans and trade, thinking of the possible functions that this operation took in social dynamics: how it changes networks of sociability, by breaking or reaffirm ties between individuals and / or groups.
