Abstract

Antonio Callado produced great part of his fictional work in a dictatorial and pos-dictatorial context, what directly influenced his literary project. After his initial novels, which projected optimistic perspectives to the nation development, there were pieces characterized by a hopeless and pessimist nuance. A Expedição Montaigne, from 1982, portrays the apex of the utopic ideals' fainting which the author demonstrated in his first novels. Using formal resources such as satire and caricature, the author attempts to a deconstruction of the national myths present on nation imagination since Romanticism, for example the image of the Indian, until dictatorial period. This project intends to insert this novel in the context in discussion of Callado's work, beginning from the analysis of this deconstruction, and to contribute to the amplification of critical debate about this piece, from a perspective - the analysis of critical comic of satire - still not much approached.
