Abstract

Lately several areas of science are coming together to understand, clarify, slow and reverse the aging process of the skin. This process should be studied because the changes in appearance can reveal inefficiencies that occur internally, and bring psychological consequences on the behavior of the person, both as to itself before the others. The use of natural organic materials in pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations follows a market trend, given the huge boost the organic market has caused the economy. Among these materials, we highlight the use of organic cocoa that, because it is rich in polyphenols and condensed tannins, are believed to provide antioxidant potential. Associated with innovative nanostructured systems, such as liquid crystalline systems constituted by silicon film formers, the antioxidant activity of organic cocoa can thus be increased. This research aims to develop and characterize liquid crystalline systems increased organic cocoa, evaluate the physical and chemical stability and antioxidant activity of the formulations obtained. The structural characterization will be performed by analysis of polarized light microscopy, X-ray scattering Small Angle (SAXS) and rheological behavior and the stability study will be employed visual evaluation, pH and centrifugation. The antioxidant activity, in turn, will be determined based on the action of capturing the radical 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH).
