Abstract

The occurrence of diseases in fish farming is the result of several factors involved in the zootechnical methods and environmental conditions changes. Inadequate conditions may induce stress in fish, consequently affecting homeostasis and make animals more susceptible to potential pathogens. Antibiotics are commonly used in the bacterial diseases control, but their indiscriminate use can lead to selection of resistant pathogens as addition to being a source of environment pollution. Face of this problem, an alternative is the use of immunostimulants, in disease prevention. The immunostimulants comprise a group of biological and synthetic compounds that enhance the efficiency of defense mechanisms specific and non-specific. The formula of additive used in the study believed to possess antioxidant and antimicrobial synergism due to its components. Thus, due those known beneficial effects of compound components, the present study aimed to evaluate the treatment effect of flavonoids and ascorbic acid in nonspecific immune system and digestive tract of rainbow trout, an important finding for the understanding the effect of these agents.
