Abstract

Passage rate is related to the proportion of digesta that pass through the compartments of the gastrointestinal tract in a given period of time. There is a close relationship between passage rate, intake and digestibility of feeds, thus the knowledge in passage rate becomes extremely important. In addition, changes in passage rate will have a direct impact on feeding pattern in nutrient content and consequently in animal production. Several factors can affect the passage rate, which can be classified as factors inherent to diet and animals. However, the available information is limited and inconclusive, there is a gap in knowledge about the passage rate in goats. Therefore, the objective is to evaluate the goats passage rate in growing phase, under different nutritional levels. Thirty-six Saanen goats will be used, being 18 males and 18 females in the growing phase, between 15 to 30 kg body weight. These animals will be randomized into three nutritional levels (0%, 25% and 50% of feed restriction). To determine the passage rate is used for emptying the rumen technique in slaughtered animals. The indicators will be used as external Cr-EDTA for determination of liquid phase and ytterbium acetate to the solid phase. And as internal indicators will be used to NDF and ADF indigestible. Behavioral tests will be carried ingestive and digestibility in order to relate these variables with passage rate. The passage rate data obtained will be used for the construction of the mathematical model that will integrate information of the intake, digestibility, feeding behavior and the rate of passage.
