Abstract

The aim of this one-year visit to professor Malmsten’s lab is to perform a deeper investigation of the aqueous dispersions of the cationic lipid series cethyldimethylammonium bromide (DnDAB, n = 10-18) in the lamellar phase and in presence of helpers, such as triblock copolymers (Pluronics) or monoolein (GMO) for possible application as pharmaceutical formulations, by including siRNA (small interfering RNA). Similar systems will also be investigated in the dilute concentration regime to obtain stabilized complexes with helpers and siRNA (lipoplexes). A comparative investigation will be extended to a pH-sensitive lipids having identical chains. The main methods to be used in this investigation include microscopy and SAXS. (AU)
