Abstract

This project proposes the study of small angle X ray scattering (SAXS), with and without grazing incidence, of liposome dispersions and lipid multilayers which have application on the pharmaceutical industry. The experiments will be performed at the SAXS beamline at the Synchrotron Light National Lab (LNLS). For the experiments using SAXS with grazing incidence (GISAXS), one chamber with humidity control will be designed to be coupled to an existing goniometer, which is in commissioning phase. The data analysis will be done using modeling programs developed specifically for liposome dispersions and lipid multilayers, which will also be useful for other ongoing projects at the small angle scattering group (ERX) at LNLS. The development of the present project will bring benefits not only to the ERX group, in which the candidate will start his activities, but also to the users' community of the SAXS beamline at LNLS which will make use of the commissioned setup for GISAXS with isolated chamber. Other techniques, like electron microscopy, Langmuir monolayers and grazing incidence diffraction (GID) are proposed as a perspective for continuing this project.
