Abstract

Active range of motion refers to the amount of motion performed by an individual without any help, and how a certain joint can move. It is used to analyze capacity, flexibility, coordination and muscle strength of individuals, providing balance and stability, it is very important for the physical therapy practice.Joint mobility varies from individual to individual, already being tested influences of gender (women more mobile than men), age (the older, less flexibility), lifestyle and genetic factors. In this study we collected the values of range of motion in children 8-12 years, males and females to evaluate the differences in mobility between the genders, the influence of dominance on range of motion of the upper limb in children of this age group and to compare this pattern with the pattern existing in healthy young adults. The measures of active range of motion will be analyzed: flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, medial and lateral rotation of right and left shoulders, by using the universal goniometer, model Carci and reliability will be evaluated within and between raters.
