From Margins, Black Writings: Relations between Peripheral Literature and Black Ethnic Racial Identity.

Abstract

The dynamic of development of identity and representation has long been the subject of several studies in Social Psychology. In the intertwining of these processes are involved issues like social inclusion, exclusion, stereotyping and prejudice. The inferiority and exclusion means damage to the subject`s identity. However, social actors are not passive in the face of such conditions. Instead, they weave social representations aiming reframe their situation, their social place and identity. It is in this context that is inserted the movement of peripheral literature. This movement produces reports and new ways of seeing and thinking about living on the margins of society. To discuss issues peculiar to the peripheries, is quite incident the appeal to racial issues. Considering, therefore, there are relations between the productions of peripheral literature and peculiar questions to the blackness, we aim study the manifestations of peripheral literature produced in the outskirts of Sao Paulo in its intersections with the race issue, to verify the relations that can be established between black ethnic racial identity and the movement of peripheral literature. So, will be held a research with ethnographic orientation in the São Paulo` soirees selected, whose information will be organized in field diaries. In addition, we will held semi structured interviews with black writers of peripheral literature, who expatiate with racial issue. The texts of these authors, which are considered relevant to this problem, will undergo content analysis, looking up, by this means to apprehend elements that can cooperate to understand the ways in which the racial issue is handled by the activists of the peripheral literature and how this production relates to the ethnic racial identity of the authors. It is hoped, from this study, we build an understanding of the identity processes and the development of representations and their relation to the condition of social and racial exclusion and confrontation of it, from the research with the peripheral literature movement.
