Abstract

The electrical energy systems, worldwide, are facing major technical, economical, organizational and structural modifications due to the implementation of new paradigms. The main factors causing these changes are: usage of modern, digital measurement and protection systems, diversification of the primary energetic matrix, deregulation of the energy market and intensive usage of power electronics devices. Such facts require that new methods of control, protection, monitoring and supervision be developed for the modern power systems. This project will be developed in this context; details of the developments to be reached are presented in the project. In addition, although the scientific and technical developments are important, the main objective of this application is to allow the visit of this researcher to the research group lead by Prof. Dr. Wilsun Xu (IEEE Fellow), at the University of Alberta, Canada, for 8 months, not only to consolidate the collaboration between these research groups and develop a number of research projects, but also to become viable the participation of the applicant in a major scientific and technical program recently implement by the productive sector and the Canadian govern. Such program is supported by the Alberta Power Industry Consortium (APIC), the Informatics Circle of Research Excellence (iCORE) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada (NSERC) and lead by Prof. Wilsun Xu, details of the program are presented in the project.
