Microgrids:Identification and solution of problems in hybrid distributed generation systems

Abstract

A microgrid can be defined as a set of hybrid distributed generation systems, storage systems and loads that are connected to a low or medium voltage network (distribution network) through a common coupling point. In order to provide energy with quality in a safe, economical and clean way, the different forms of distributed generation of the microgrid must operate in a coherent and coordinated way through an adequate control system. This main control should consider the expected demand, tariffs, technical restrictions of the devices for planning and scheduling the operation, as well as relation with the main network in terms of market and provision of services. Also, some distributed sources that can be installed in a microgrid are not suitable to be connected directly to the electrical network due to the characteristics of the energy produced, requiring interfaces dependent on the power electronics (DC / AC or AC / DC / AC). The present project aims at the study of microgrids, emphasizing some important aspects regarding its control, protection and power quality. (AU)
