Abstract

The internet introduced a new economy - the economy in the digital era. Popularly called e-commerce, it brought profound transformations in the organizations, market structures and in the consumer behavior. The new economy is strongly related to the concepts of globalization and virtual organization. The globalization is the internationalization of the relations that with the internet it has increased the scope. The virtual organization is a phenomenon that occurs only because of the internet. And in the center of all these transformation is the customer that through better interaction with the companies is more and more searching to build personalized experiences that could offer him better added value in the buying process. There are three key-tendencies that determine the way consumers are relating to the companies and among them - collaboration, connectivity and computing. Through two kind of research approach, the survey and the case study, the present project intend to investigate how these three key-tendencies are influencing the personalization strategy in the e-commerce companies. The survey will be applied in order to empirically find the influencing factors that is driving the personalization strategy with the objective of making the link between the theory and the practice. An in depth study will be conducted in selected companies in order to understand how these factors, identified during the survey, are impacting the organizations' strategy.
