Abstract

This research project proposes a comparative analysis of the column of literary criticism Prosa de Sábado, part of the literary supplement Sabático, of the O Estado de S. Paulo daily newspaper. It refers to the critical texts produced by the critic Silviano Santiago and by the journalist Sérgio Augusto from August of 2010 up to July of 2011. With it, the objective is to investigate and demarcate the contrasts and approximations among the literary criticism in its academic and journalistic sides, on the basis of the verification of common and different characteristics with regard to their themes, language and critical values. On the basis of the literature references that deal with the historical path made by these critical sides in Brazil and those which analyze anthological cases and products of the literary criticism in the Brazilian press, the research will also reflect about the presence of the critics and the literary supplements in the current context of the cultural journalism in Brazil.
