Influence of the incorporation of natural disinfectants agents into type IV dental stone: analyse of the antimicrobial effectiveness

Many protocols for disinfection can be used to avoid cross-contamination between dental office and dental laboratory. The inclusion of antimicrobial agent to the composition of gypsum or its manipulation with disinfectant substances can be used to this aim. The purpose of this study will be analyse the antimicrobial effectiveness of the natural disinfectants agents incorporated into type IV dental stone (FujiRock EP, GC Europe, Leuven, Belgium.. The microbiological test used will be the Agar diffusion test to the following microorganisms: Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis e Candida albican. The samples will be separated in seven groups: 1) dental stone mixed with sterile distilled water; 2) dental stone mixed with 2% glutaraldehyde solution; 3) paper disk soaked with solution of propolis extract ; 4) paper disk soaked with solution of tea tree oil - TTO; 5) dental stone mixed with solution of propolis extract; 6) dental stone mixed with solution of tea tree oil - TTO; 7) dental stone with incorporation of dry propolis extract, in proportion of 1% of the dental stone mass, and mixed with sterile distilled water. The antimicrobial activity of disinfectant will be evaluated by the average diameter of microbial growth inhibition zones. (AU)
