Abstract

The supply of colostrum to neonate calves is essential for the transference of passive immunity, therefore the type of placenta epitheliocorial of cows presents the passage of antibodies during pregnancy. Beyond immunoglobulins and acute phase proteins also are transferred to the neonate. The acute phase proteins assist in the early diagnosis of the inflammatory illnesses. Beyond these colostrum components, the presence or absence of the clinical or asymptomatic mastitis can influence in the amount and quality of the colostrum, as well as in its immune elements, mainly in the concentrations of immunoglobulins. Thus, the purpose of this study is to evaluated colostral secretions in cows with or without mastitis, the concentrations of immunoglobulins and acute phase proteins. For this purpose, samples of colostrum of 30 Holstein cows will be used. The same determination will be made in the serum of their calves. The samples of colostrum and blood will be collected immediately birth, and until 48 hours.
