Phytoremediation potential of Arachis pintoi and Nanostructured Iron Material on Water Samples Contaminated with Persistent Organic Pollutants in Hydroponics

Abstract

The organochlorine pollutants are compounds with high toxicity that were widely used in agriculture in the twentieth century.They have high stability and are hardly degraded in natural environment. Due to these characteristics, many of them were banned, and also many don't have adequate legislation. So, it is important to develop efficient techniques for the removal, immobilization and/or degradation of these compounds.The purpose of this essay is to measure the efficiency of Arachis pintoi (forage peanut), allied with Iron nanoparticles, in the phytoremediation process of water contaminated with persistent organochlorine pollutants, in hydroponics, under controlled conditions in a greenhouse.Will be studied extraction and clean-up methods for water and plant samples, and also will be made the rating of the quantification limits, from fortified samples of the hydroponic solution and plant.The samples will be analyzed by Gas Chromatography with Electron Capture Detector (GC/ECD). Also will be used Gas Chromatography with Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS), for validation of the analytical method for POPs with this technique, also for confirmation and better evaluation of the analytes. The obtained results can contribute for further studies of the application of nanostructured materials with phytoremediation; expansion of the technological appeal and usage of these materials; development of techniques for solving or alleviate environmental problems.
