Abstract

In recent years, much has been said about changes in land use in the Amazon region. This is due to massive deforestation that has occurred mainly seeking the expansion of new agricultural frontiers in this region. However, it is essential to note that the share of agriculture, especially when refers to soil management, has a key role and very important in regulating flows of C and N to the atmosphere. Thus, it is known that depending on the land use system, and especially given the soil management, the global warming can become increased. Thus, this proposal aims to determine the impact degree of different land uses and agricultural management practices on soil carbon and nitrogen stock changes in agricultural expansion areas in the oriental Amazon. For such situations will be evaluated different land use compared with native forest, in two municipalities in the State of Pará: Santarém and Paragominas. Total soil C and N stocks will be quantified, and also the physical-chemical caracterization of soils will be performed in order to analyze the changes onchemical properties (macro and micronutrients, CEC, BS, pH, Al3 +) and physical attributes (bulk density and texture). Additionally, we will evaluate the quality of soil organic matter (SOM) through physical fractionation and the origin of C and N present in these areas through the use of 13C and 15N natural abundance. Based on the results, it will be possible to provide subsidies to the implementation of appropriate management systems, capable of increasing C and N sequestration in the soil, controlling emissions while promoting growth supported insustainable development.
