Abstract

With the increasing use of biodiesel in the world, there was a large surplus of glycerol in the market. In Brazil, a market 200,000 tons of biodiesel glycerol is expected with the use of 5 % biodiesel to diesel . Nevertheless, the clarification and purification of this glycerol is still a very costly process , and the use of glycerol in raw form, and generate high value-added products, can help reduce the amount of biodiesel on the market, since storage costs or disposal of the crude glycerol is linked to the price of biodiesel. The biodiesel glycerol is can be used for the production of 1,3 -propanediol by bacteria. This design aims to clone and express genes related to the production of 1,3 -propanediol in E.coli strains in order to improve the production of that molecule .
