Influence of using adhesive agents on the kinesiographic records of complete denture wearers

Abstract

Denture adhesives for complete denture are used to improve retention and stability providing comfort to wearers. The objective of this study will be evaluate the effectiveness of a denture adhesive (Ultra Corega Paste) in patients' satisfaction and three-dimensional motion of the jaw during chewing and movement of maxillary denture during mastication in patients with new complete dentures. Methods: Patients will receive new conventional dentures, and after an adaptation period after the insertion of dentures , the sample (n = 50) will be randomized into two groups, and, in sequential and alternating periods and sequence of 15 days will be assigned to two types of protocol proposed: protocol 1- denture adhesive application during the first 15 days, followed by the absence of denture adhesive over the next 15 days; protocol 2-absence of denture adhesive during the first 15 days, followed by application of denture adhesive over the next 15 days. Three-dimensional motion of the jaw during chewing and movement of maxillary denture during mastication will be evaluated by kinesiographic records. A questionnaire will be used to evaluate subjectively patients' satisfaction with and without use of a denture adhesive after each period. Patients' satisfaction will classify using an analogue scale from 0 to 2 (0 = unsatisfactory, 1 = regular, 2 = good). The results for each of the variables will be analyzed statistically with a significance level of 5%, by means of the IBM SPSS Statistics, (version 19.0), using appropriate test according to the type of the variable and the adherence of the data to normality.
