Abstract

The positioning and shape of the occlusal posterior teeth in complete dentures are extremely important for to lead an adequate masticatory performance of edentulous patient. Besides the occlusal scheme, the use of dental implants can contribute to masticatory efficiency because they improve the retention and stability of the prosthesis, particularly the lower prosthesis. Thus the objectives of this study are: conduct a randomized crossover clinical trial to evaluate the masticatory performance in wearers of conventional complete dentures in both arcs and wearers of conventional complete denture in upper arc and implant-retained overdenture in lower arc with Conventional Balanced Occlusion and Lingualized Balanced Occlusion, using an artificial food test (dense condensation silicone cubes) chewed for (a) 30 chewing cycles, (b) 40 chewing cycles and (c) until the subject feels ready to swallow; Conduct, to make, through GOHAI questionnaire, a randomized crossover trial of oral health self-perception in these subjects; evaluate the possible marginal bone loss through periapical radiographs during periods of 2, 6 and 10 months compared to the moment of installation of the implants. It will be used interchangeable posterior teeth in lower dentures, thereby changing the occlusal schemes without making another complete denture. Statistical analyzes will be made to check the results, using as variables occlusal schemes and number of chewing cycles. (AU)
