Abstract

This project continues the research project developed by the student in his masters degree, approaching the estimation of the value of materials properties using wavelet transforms. In a first moment these transforms will be Haar and Daubechies wavelets. Wavelets, applied in a digital image of the sample, turn it into a signal in frequency and time domains, returning important information. Each wavelet has its peculiarities, so the results obtained by different wavelets are distinct. In this task the software WaveFPR, created by the student during his master's project, will be used. After processed by WaveFPR, the input images are converted into a matrix of coefficients, or "digital signature ", with which data are compared. After the nominal value for certain property of interest from a sample is obtained by usual methods, the images will be compared statistically and the best wavelet is chosen to represent that property. Thus, a model is created for each sample of a material. Among the materials examined include the membranes of natural rubber with additives such as industrial waste, leather, metal nanoparticles of gold, silver and ceramics. New images of similar materials will be analyzed and its results are compared with the model previously stored, then determining whether that property in the sample has a high value or not, without the need for regular tests.
