TRACKS MORPHOMETRY AS A DISCRIMINANT METHODOLOGY BETWEEN THE SPECIES OF GENUS MAZAMA

Abstract

The species of genus Mazama are largely distributed in neotropics from south of Mexico to Argentina and M. americana, M. gouazoubira, M. nana and M. bororo occur in sympatry in the Atlantic forest. These species have nocturnal, lonely and territorialists habits, difficulting the ecological studies techniques that require visualization. Thus, many studies use the tracks morphometry to the species discrimination although the validity of this method has not been studied in depth. This study therefore proposes to determine the validity of tracks morphometry as discrimination methodology between these species. For this, the tracks of each species will be morphometrically analyzed through their records in a plot of fine and wet sand set on a management corridor. Will be used animals of the species M. americana, M. gouazoubira, M. nana, M. nemorivaga, e M. bororo kept in the scientific breeding of NUPECCE. With the data obtained, descriptive statistical analysis, means comparison tests and discriminant multivariate analysis will be done.
