Abstract

The avian pox, caused by a poxvirus, a member of the Poxviridae family and the Avipoxvirus genus, is an acute and highly contagious disease of birds, that infects both the commercial and free-living, causing major damage to the creations and creators. The disease is characterized by three main forms, cutaneous, diphtheric and septicemic, but the forms of tumors and runny nose may also occur. This project aims to detect the presence of avipoxvírus in samples of skin lesions, scabs and oral and ocular swabs of birds from breeding and Ecological Parks of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. In the Electron Microscopy Laboratory techniques will be processed for transmission electron microscopy in negative staining, immunoelectron microscopy, immunocytochemistry (immunolabeling with colloidal gold particles) and the resin embedding to contribute to subsequent routine screening of these viruses in birds, determining risk areas in the State of São Paulo and collaborating in this way with the National Agribusiness Poultry, giving the foundation health programs.
