Abstract

Since the 90s, with the rising tide of direct translations in Brazil, the Russian literature is gaining more space next to our readers. Still, works that have been fundamental in their season remain inaccessible. When it comes to Turgenev, for example, the emphasis is always on his work more relevant, parents and children, and the controversy it has aroused. However, it was with the tales that began publishing in 1847, meeting later in the collection Memories of a hunter, that the writer has gained a reputation as one of the greatest landscape painters of world literature. This work was published in Brazil in 1962, but today is totally inaccessible to readers.Turgenev was the first writer to penetrate the Russian woods and found it and unveil it to the reader of his country, and around the world in all its details and in all its splendor. In the tales of Memoirs of a hunter, turning the vastness of the Russian landscape in true poetry, Turgenev it brings out the human condition in its purest state. And that is what is the big news of the work: the discovery of the man who inhabits this landscape, the Russian peasant, never before presented with such force and originality. In this sense, "Jivie mochi" ("Living Relics") is one of the most prominent stories in the collection.The objective of this research project is in addition to the direct translation of this Russian tale, prepare a comment that may contribute to the spread of a not so well known aspect of Turgenev's work in Brazil.
