Abstract

The ability of assembling inorganic, organic, and even bioactive components in a single material unfolds an exciting direction in the development of novel multifunctional hybrid materials. Recently, we have observed that flexible, transparent and insoluble urea-cross-linked polyether/siloxane hybrids presenting a tunable drug delivery pattern could be prepared using the sol-gel method from PEO (poly(ethylene oxide)) and PPO (poly(propylene oxide)) of different polyether chain lengths functionalized at both chain ends with triethoxysilane. The ability to adapt the process established for drugs (CisPt and SDCF) to UV filters used as active ingredients in sunscreens would open new possibilities in the photoprotection field. Recently, the trend in photoprotection is the increased use of inorganic UV filters, which are usually made of nanostructured metallic oxide particles, for both photoprotection efficiency and aesthetic purposes. Goals:* to establish new protocols of hybrid materials preparation/characterization from nanoparticle incorporation and/or Raman, UV-Vis and NMR spectroscopies;* to "adapt" the process established for the drug delivery to inorganic nanoparticulated UV filters by incorporating pure or doped inorganic oxide (cerium, iron, tin, titanium or zinc) in the hybrid matrix;* to establish structure-properties correlations taking account for both the matrix and the NP structure/size and the release transport phenomenon.
