Abstract

Experiments of expansion of Bose-Einstein condensades in an optical lattices has been made by several research groups, showing the phase transition from superfluid (SF) to Mott-insulator (MI). This ph.D. project aims to describe how occurs the SF-MI transition using numerical methods of Quantum Monte-Carlo applied to the Bose-Hubbard model in a hexagonal optical lattice. Afterward we will also introduce long-range dipole interactions and study the phase diagram of the system.
