Abstract

ABSTRACT: "SCREENIG FOR ANTIBIOTICS COMPOUNDS PRODUCED BY BACTERIA ASSOCIATED WITH THE MEDICINAL PLANT Alternanthera brasiliana (Amaranthaceae)". The aim of this project, proposed for the student Leonardo Talachia Rosa, is to study the secondary metabolites production by endophytic bacteria isolated from the medicinal plant Alternathera brasiliana. This plant is widely used by Brazilian people as a folk medicine for the treatment of numerous infections. However, little is known about its chemical composition and the microorganisms that live in association with it. Our group has been studying the endophytics microorganisms associated for this plant as well identifying the antibiotics compounds present in plant tissues. In this project, we are proposing to isolate endophytics bacteria from different parts of A. brasiliana in an attempt to identify antibiotics compounds produced by these microorganisms. Dereplication strategies, employing analytical techniques such as GC-MS, LC-MS, LC-MS-MS and NMR, and bioassays will be used for a rapid identification of secondary metabolites.
