Abstract

The goal of this research is to visit Wuhan, capital of Hube, known as the Optics Valley. For its central geographic location, Wuhan is a strategic location in China. Some large Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Xi'an are all within a circle around the center of Wuhan with a radius of 1,000 km. Importantly, photonics has been designated as one of ten strategic technologies for the Chinese government and the Technology Development Plan 863/973 has brought clear instructions on photonics, which is also featured in the tenth five-year plan. The goal is that China become in the forefront of innovation in photonics technologies as well as in its industrial applications. (AU)
