Abstract

The need to replace fluid losses of up to become established and widespread in the international consensus. The benefits offered by drinking isotonic solution in equal proportions during and after exercise have been described, however, remains unclear the influence of hydration with water on the behavior of autonomic and cardiorespiratory systems. Therefore, we intend to analyze the effects of water intake on the cardiac autonomic modulation and cardiorespiratory parameters in young people during and after a long term exercise. Thirty healthy active young people between 18 and 25 years, will conduct three visits to the laboratory (48-hour interval between them), and first applied in an incremental test to determine the load of the treadmill to be used on subsequent visits, and the two latter, called protocol control (CP) and the experimental protocol (EP), subjects will undergo 10 minutes of supine rest, 90 min of treadmill exercise (60% of VO 2peak) and 60 min of supine rest. In the CP they won't be hydrated and in the EP they will be hydrated with water during and after exercise, every 15 min from the beginning, being the volume proportional to the body mass amount lost in the CP. To ensure the condition of initial hydration, the subjects have to drink 500 ml of water two hours before the CP and EP, and to assess the condition of hydration after the EP the participants will be instructed to collect and analyze the urine specific density. The parameters heart rate (HR), systolic and diastolic blood pressure, respiratory rate and partial oxygen saturation will be measured throughout the experiment. The HR variability is calculated by linear methods (SDNN, RMSSD, LF, HF, LF / HF) and non-linear (detrended fluctuation analysis, Poincaré plot and Recurrence plot). Student's T test or Mann-Whitney and repeated measures ANOVA or Friedman test followed by post hoc tests with significance level of 5% will be used for data analysis.
