Abstract

An issue that can generate a lot of discussion within the theme of heritage is concepts that take to the realization of architectural design, given its relationship with the urban surroundings. These discussions and decisions influence and are influenced by public perceptions about and also involve what the public thinks appropriates foreign cultural events and tourism. The understanding, clarification, and dissemination of these concepts have a great potential for information that can contribute to urban development and the dissemination of values that attract interest in the culture of the city. São Luiz do Paraitinga is an example of a city where this discussion happens. It is a city founded in the nineteenth and most of its buildings are listed by the historical (and CONDEPHAAT IPHAN), and the city, is considered a cradle of culture. Recently suffered a flood that ended up destroying a considerable part of the city, leaving important works destroyed and thousands homeless. This has led to the city, different agencies, and actors having to give their opinion and decide on these issues. Therefore, the survey will understand the concepts in the development of the process of architectural design in the city and the participation of actors in those decisions regarding the heritage of the city. To consider this process of elaboration and discussion of the project at the School of Music as a case study.(AU)
